Dreamers Protection Has To Come With Border Wall

Norway Prime Minister Erna Solberg visited the White House Wednesday.

The senators, three Democrats and three Republicans, “have reached an agreement in principle that addresses border security, the diversity visa lottery, chain migration/family reunification and the Dream Act”, they wrote in a statement.

DETROW: Now they say they’re working on building support for the deal in Congress. Richard Durbin, D-Ill., Michael Bennet, D-Colo., Robert Menende, D-N.J., and Cory Gardner, R-Colo., all of whom have worked on immigration issues for several years and hail from states with large immigrant populations.

A thicket of controversial provisions has been under discussion, according to lawmakers, congressional aides and immigration experts outside of government.

Back in November, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders tried to deny that Trump called the United States justice system a “laughingstock” by claiming he said the “process” of how our country handles terror attacks “has people calling us” a joke and a laughingstock.

Peter Aguayo, director of “Insure America Project” a non-profit organization that helps with DACA applications, recommends for those who are looking to renew to wait until a concrete decision is made.

Trump scrapped DACA last September, but left a six-month window for Congress to craft a solution by March, when thousands of immigrants would face deportation.

Durbin – who founded the movement to protect DREAMers, youths illegally in the USA through no fault of their own – is one of the lead Democratic negotiators. “It’s the only game in town”, Flake said.

Congress has until January 19th to pass a budget deal or the government will shut down.

“Any solution has to include the wall because without the wall, it all doesn’t work”, Trump told reporters at the White House. “The President and all those attending the meeting know what I said and how I feel”, Graham said in a statement.

“Because of the Democrats not being interested in life and safety, DACA has now taken a big step backwards”, Trump added.

“Durbin said Graham immediately spoke up against Trump’s comments, and he commended the Republican senator for doing so”.

Republicans have sought some form of funding for measures to curb illegal immigration as part of a deal.

Trump specifically questioned why the US would want to admit more people from Haiti. He also called for ending the diversity visa lottery, a State Department program that gives residents of nations with few migrants coming to the US a chance for a green card, and for ending family-based migration (called “chain migration” by its opponents) that allows extended family members of immigrants already in the USA legally to come to the U.S.as well. But the bill does contain much of what the president has said he wants to see in an immigration bill: a plan to fund the border wall and to end the chain migration system as well as the visa lottery program. He stressed the need for “surveillance” and “manpower” in tandem with that.

DACA shields almost 800,000 young immigrants from deportation by allowing them to work and study legally in the United States.

Despite slim chances of garnering more than a few Democratic supporters, the bill could serve as a starting point for negotiating a DACA replacement.
