Narayan Rane files nomination for Rajya Sabha

Congress President approved the list for the the March 23 Rajya Sabha polls.

Yajnik, a lawyer cum rights activist, today filed her nomination papers for the March 23 polls, a day after the Congress announced her candidature along with veteran tribal leader and former MP Naran Rathwa.

Katiyar had also claimed that Taj Mahal stands at the site of a temple and suggested that it should be re-named Tejo Mandir.

From Rajasthan, BJP has nominated Kirodi Lal Meena, who joined the party again on Sunday after leaving it a decade ago. The second seat will be fought by an independent supported by it, sources said.

The BVA, the RSP, Independents and the lone MNS legislator are supporting the BJP-led government.

Vijay Pal Singh Tomar, another UP candidate, is a prominent farmers’ leader. Both Muralidharan and Natesan belong to Ezhava community. So, the party opted to nominate Jaitley from Uttar Pradesh.

Ajay Pratap Singh, who has contested the assembly elections in 2003 and 2008, and Kailash Soni will represent the party from Madhya Pradesh. However, he does not see it as an attempt to marginalise him in state politics.

G.C. Chandrashekar is presently the General Secretary of the KPCC. I have already been a Member of Parliament for five years – two times from Rajya Sabha and three times from Lok Sabha. JD (U) spokesperson K C Tyagi might be considered later for the seat held by Sharad Yadav.

Former Kerala BJP chief V Muralidharan will be its second candidate from Maharashtra.

The Congress and BJP announced the list of candidates only yesterday. Rest of the papers were filed by Anil Desai from the Sena, Vandana Chavan from the NCP, and Kumar Ketkar from the Congress.

Hanumanthaiah, vice president of Karnataka Congress, is a Dalit writer and poet.

AICC Media Spokesperson Naseer Hussain was chosen to replace long-standing Congress candidate K Rahman Khan. The Shiv Sena has 63 members which means it has a surplus of 21 votes after it elects one of its candidates. However, with no choice left, the JD (S) now makes a plan forward, to get ahead with the political game. Later, BJP’s Kiritsinh Rana, a former MLA, entered the race as the third candidate. They include Union ministers Prakash Javadekar, L Ganeshan, Thawarchand Gehlot and Meghraj Jain of BJP and Satyavrat Chaturvedi of Congress. However, just minutes before the 3pm deadline, he reached the Assembly with senior Congress leaders and team of lawyers and filed his nomination.
