Nokia 8: Is this the true OnePlus 5 killer?

The handset is the fourth Nokia smartphone that comes with pure Android after HMD announced the comeback of the Nokia brand earlier in the year. The device is Amazon exclusive and is priced at Rs 36,999. The smartphone comes with the latest and powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor and 4GB RAM.


The dual SIM LTE device supports all global LTE bands and also supports carrier aggregation.

The Nokia 8 ships with Android 7.1.1 Nougat with a promised update to Oreo and quick subsequent updates. The Nokia 8 will go on sale on Croma, Reliance, Sangeeta Mobile and other offline retailers. The Nokia 8 has been designed from the ground up with the consumer in mind to deliver unique content capture and sharing experiences. Memory options in 64 GB/4 GB variant and 128 GB/6 GB which can be expanded up to 256 GB via micro SD card where the former option would be made available in India. The front camera has a 13MP shooter for taking selfies.

Nokia has an offer for Jio customers where they will get up to 100GB additional 4G data on purchase of Nokia 8. The 2.5D display is covered with a sheet of Gorilla Glass 5 to guard against scratches and minor falls.

Will be shipped in tempered blue, polished blue, steel and polished copper colors to choose from with subject to availability globally. Which would also mean that it may get scratched easily, much like the Jet Black iPhone 7 models that were given a similar treatment. Using this feature, users can simultaneously click photos and take videos using front cam /selfie snapper and the rear camera. The nostalgia factor might also work in favor of the veteran brand in the Indian market, however the real story will be told once the handset is out in the field on October 14, 2017.

It comes with dual 13-megapixel sensors combining a RGB (with OIS) and a monochrome sensor.

The Nokia 8 comes with 3090 mAh battery and supports Fast Charging.


For the camera capability, Nokia get-together with its old-mate Carl-Zeiss. It sports a 5.00-inch touchscreen display with 720 x 1280 pixel resolution and is powered by 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek 6737 processor paired with 2GB RAM. In the camera department, the device features a vertically-aligned dual-camera setup on the back along with a dual-tone flash module and an IR range finder. Also on board is OZO Audio tech for spatial 360-degree audio recording (using 3 microphones), including an Audio Focus mode.
