Sony started taking pre-orders for the Playstation VR HMD in March. Oculus and HTC have both released high-end virtual reality systems for your PC, and Sony wasn’t about to be left out from virtual reality gaming.

Sony expects to have over 50 VR games available by year’s end, including Capcom’s “Resident Evil 7”, Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter said in a research report Tuesday. It also threw in $150 worth of games from Oculus. It is good to know that the variant that contains only the PlayStation VR costs 399 dollars, but there will be also a variant that will include the PlayStation Camera and Move Controllers, which will cost 499.99 dollars. Using 1-to-1 tracking, pointing the controller at a particular spot or angle in the real world will point your virtual gun at the same target in the game. We have reached out to Sony Canada to see if this date holds true in Canada. “All of the games releasing within this life cycle [of consoles] will absolutely be playable on the standard PS4”, he said.

The device is due launch in late 2017, will have 6 teraflops of GPU, support true 4K gaming and high fidelity virtual reality in what Microsoft described as “the most powerful console ever created”.

Along with the timing on hardware, Sony revealed several experiences players will enjoy on their VR platform, including action game Farpoint, Batman Arkham VR and a Star Wars Battlefront expansion where players can fly an X-Wing. The headset will retail at $399, which is now less than Oculus Rift or HTC Vive. Now dubbed Project Scorpio, Microsoft’s Xbox Chief Phil Spencer said during E3 that the upgraded Xbox One would offer “true 4K gaming” and “high fidelity VR”.
