‘Straight Outta Compton’ crosses $100 million, wins box office again

While the studio predicted a weekend box office of .1 million on Sunday morning, on Monday it revised that number to a whopping .2 million.

The film – charting the rise and fall of rap group N.W.A. – has been getting rave reviews and producer Ice Cube says it’s more than just a hip-hop biopic.

What’s disappointing is that Sinister 2 did the best out of all three new movies. “That’s a great story”, Bock said. “It’s pretty standard. Same thing happened past year, when “Guardians of the Galaxy” dominated at this time too”. Also, the network noted that they acquired 67% of all 2014 films that made more than $100 million at the U.S. box office according to Variety. That’s considerably lower than the original Sinister opened with $18 million in October 2012, and the sequel’s “B-” CinemaScore does not bode well for its legs.

Four weeks into its run and Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation is still a hit with audiences.

Rounding out the rest of 10 most popular films this weekend in the US and Canada were “Man From U.N.C.L.E”.

Nick Carpou, Universal’s president of domestic distribution, said they were “elated” with the results. “It was unfortunate”. That might not end up being the case, but it’s still something that’s not a awful idea if you consider how well franchises do with fans and the deep subject matter we’re dealing with.

The action movie accumulated $8.2 million, reaching second place. The film reunited Jesse Eisenberg with his former co- star in “Adventure Land” last 2009, Kristen Stewart.

The Lily Tomlin comedy “Grandma” got off to a good start in its limited debut for Sony Pictures Classics, taking in $122,000 from four screens for a strong $30,457 average. Noah Baumbach’s uproarious Mistress America had a fine second weekend, however, making $237,000. If not, what movie do you think will take its place atop the box office? The total haul for 2015 is about $7.5 billion, up from the $7 billion from the same time a year ago. The 2007 Hitman started with $13.2 million on its way to $39.7 million, and that wasn’t exactly a smash hit (also cost less, $25 million).
