‘Assassin’s Creed’ Recruits Jeremy Irons and Brendan Gleeson
Gleeson and Irons join the film’s lead and producer, Michael Fassbender and previously announced actress Marion Cotillard.

As the movie is set in the same world as the Assassin’s Creed video games rather than a live-action retelling of one of them, plot details are now scarce.
According to Deadline, Irons will play Cotillard’s father, while Gleeson will play Fassbender’s (Callum Lynch’s) father. Whether this is just a production code name or the film will actually be subtitled “Assassin’s Creed: Time Out of Mind” remains to be seen, although it does sum up the anachronistic nature of the franchise. Fassbender will be playing Callum Lynch, a character created specifically for the film which plays off the same concept of the game series.
“Assassin’s Creed” is co-financed by RatPac and Alpha Pictures. He soon discovers that he’s the descendent of a line of assassins, and use his knowledge and skills to defeat the shady Templar organization in present day. Between that fantastic cast and its acclaimed director, it boasts the kind of pedigreed talent you’d expect from a critically acclaimed prestige drama. Macbeth comes out right in the thick of prestige-pic season on December 4.
Gleeson last worked with Fassbender on Trespass Among Us.

Though videogame movies are more often misses than hits, the long-awaited Assassin’s Creed adaptation boasts a seriously respectable cast. His upcoming releases include Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and the Jesse Owens biopic Race.
