After waving placards inside Lok Sabha, BJP MPs protested outside Parliament building asking Congress to let the Houses transact business.
The MPs were carrying placards that read “Shame Shame”.
At the Congress parliamentary party meeting, party president Sonia Gandhi’s outburst against Shashi Tharoor, MP, on Wednesday comes a few days after she had taken another senior party MP to task for questioning the party line on taking an aggressive line in Parliament on the scams that the BJP is involved in. “Were they making their demands to god?”
“Till the time there is action or there are resignations, we will continue to raise these issues inside and outside parliament”, Azad said, adding that the government was insensitive to the demands of the opposition and to the desire of the people. Similar scenes prevailed when it reassembled, forcing Deputy Chairman PJ Kurien to adjourn it for the day. We are ready to hold discussions (in Parliament) but they are not. “We are, therefore, standing in front of the Gandhi Statue here to show the public that the opposition is not discussing”, Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman told ANI.
The BJP and the Congress are at loggerheads over various controversies which include the Vyapam scam, the Lalit Modi controversy and the death of witnesses in the Asaram Bapu case.
“Why is the Congress running away from a debate, something which they had asked for”, said Union Minister Prakash Javadekar.
The Congress was up on its feet, leading to a ruckus and adjournment for the day.
It was a complete washout of proceedings of Lower House of Indian Parliament Lok Sabha in the first week of the Monsoon session, as the Opposition remained unrelenting on its demand for the resignation of Union Minister Sushma Swaraj and Chief Ministers of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. Two bills – the Delhi High Court (Amendment) Bill and the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Amendment Bill, were also listed on Thursday for consideration and passage.
Soon after it was raised, Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Jyotiraditya Scindia rushed to Speaker Sumitra Mahajan’s chamber.
