David Wright to DH in Monday rehab

Aderlin Mejia went 3 for 4 with 3 RBIs, leading the Fort Myers Miracle to an 8-4 win over the St. Lucie Mets on Monday night in Port St. Lucie.

When left fielder Michael Cuddyer signed with the New York Mets as a free agent last fall, he did so at least in part so that he could play with his best friend in baseball, third baseman and team captain David Wright.

“If something’s wrong with David Wright, I will immediately get a phone call”, Collins said. He hadn’t played since being diagnosed with spinal stenosis, a narrowing of the spinal column.

But as Wright inches closer to Flushing, and the horrendous Rockies eventually leave Citi Field, everyone is going to get a bit more anxious about Wright’s status.

For the second consecutive day, David Wright played in a rehab game in Florida. Lucas Duda was kept on the bench after complaining of a sore back and Collins chose to give Curtis Granderson a planned night to rest anyway, probably figuring that he had plenty of firepower to demolish Rusin.

Wright finished 1-for-3 with a single and a walk. Plawecki, who was batting.228, saw his playing time decrease with the return of Travis d’Arnaud from the disabled list, but will get regular work in Triple-A.

Wright feels he’s done everything he can short of getting into live-game action. “I’m going to try to play within myself and not go insane”. “It will be a good test for me tomorrow”.

Kolligian notes that the Mets are aiming for Wright to take a total of 30 at-bats on his rehab assignment, which would cover 10 days barring setbacks.

In his absence, the Mets have used several third basemen, including Eric Campbell, Danny Muno, Daniel Murphy, Ruben Tejada and Juan Uribe. Wright charged and made his trademark barehanded scoop, but his throw to first baseman Dominic Smith was not in time. “It fires me up”.
