But Universal and Legendary’s Straight Outta Compton, which topped Friday, is having a strong second weekend, taking in an estimated $8 million Friday, putting it on track to earn around $28 million and win the weekend.
It’s never a feel-good news moment when your primary source is TMZ, but the internet rumor mill has hit a fever pitch following rapper Daz Dillinger’s comments to the celebrity parasite publication about a possible sequel to the Straight Outta Compton movie.
Following the success of the August 2015 release, TMZ reports that a sequel is being lined up about D.P.G and featured artists Warren G and Nate Dogg, which will be called Dogg Pound 4 Life.
The movie will pick up where the recent flick left off, but won’t focus on gang violence and its impact on the rap industry.
Besides doing well at the box office, Straight Outta Compton has been, in general, been well received critically, according to Paul Dergarabedian, the senior analyst at Rentrak.
No word on who will play Knight, who’s now sitting in jail awaiting trial for allegedly running over two men and killing one while visiting the set of “Straight Outta Compton“.
Dr. Dre and Ice Cube will not be producing, however Cube did give the “sequel” his blessing. Dr. Dre’s son, Curtis Young, is said to fill his father’s shoes in the film and all new actors will be plucked to play Ice Cube and Snoop. The top-grossing theater for the film was in Atlanta, but the next nine were in Los Angeles, which should come as no surprise after all the film is “Straight Outta Compton“. There’s been some help from underacheiving competition like Fantastic Four and The Man From U.N.C.L.E.
