Caitlyn Jenner was handed over Arthur Ashe Courage Award at ESPY past Wednesday.
Once she picked out the ideal dress for the ESPYs, Caitlyn Jenner had to overcome a fear much greater than her appearance – reading off a teleprompter. I wanted to feel pretty. “I wanted to be myself”, the 65-year-old former Olympian wrote on her blog.
Caitlyn Jenner was anxious about her “voice issue” at the 2015 ESPYS.
“@caitlynjenner and I finally met in person at a special private advance screening of #IAmCait”. She said that her voice is “not quite right” compared to her appearance, which bothers her a lot.
“It’s completely different from Caitlyn’s very public experience”, she tells James Corden in the clip above, before mentioning that the first episode of I am Cait will find Jenner constantly dodging paparazzi.
Fellow “Late Late Show” guest Christina Hendricks jumps in to say that she’s happy for Jenner and all transgender people. “That’s important to me“, she added.
“They’re afraid to open their mouths because the sound that comes out doesn’t match the person that’s sitting on that table”, she explains.
She said: “The toughest part in the speech was my kids”. Ester admits that she’s going to have a hard time remembering to refer to her daughter as Caitlyn instead of “Bruce“.
“There’s no way she could have transitioned privately, and I think she’s doing it very eloquently and beautifully publically”.
Jenner arrived at The Abbey wearing an eye-catching “black leather wrap dress” and completed her look with a nameplate necklace, gold bracelet, black cardigan and heels. So I stayed backstage, got ready, and walked in on the commercial break before the award was presented. I couldn’t let myself get too emotionally invested while watching it during the show because I knew I’d lose it.
‘That’s why all of my speaking engagements through the years have been always off the cuff. “We’re changing hearts and minds one at a time”, she says.
