The download comes through the Windows Update process and takes up space, but doesn’t install the new system unless the user chooses to do so manually.
Until now, the Photos app hasn’t received any significant change, but it did get a pivot menu that could be a sign that Microsoft isn’t all about the hamburger-style icon in Windows 10. Now, that sounds perfectly reasonable – until you look a little bit deeper.
For example, the Mail and Calendar apps gained new personalization features, including a dark theme, which also was introduced this week for Windows 10 Mobile.
An online petition started back in August now has “Thousands of corporate tech admins” voicing their disagreement with Microsoft’s decision to no longer give detailed descriptions on Windows 10 updates.
In the “Advanced Options” tab, you want to once again head to the middle of the page and select “Choose how updates are delivered”. At present Microsoft only divulges official documentation for Windows security updates.
Microsoft is expected to finally launch the hotly-anticipated Surface Pro 4 on October 6. Foley added that the devices have been code named as Cityman and Talkman and will be based on the Windows 10 for Mobile. This will be interesting because there are some reports which claim the USB Type-C is slower in charging times than a regular port. We’re also curious to see how Windows 10 works with the fingerprint scanner. Both versions should come equipped with Intel’s latest chip, Skylake, which can be used fanless, allowing manufacturers to build slimmer and more energy-conscious devices. It’s not quite the same Start menu found in Windows 10, hey, but it’s better than nothing.
The comScore figures, however, would suggest that users are not as excited, if you will, to use those extras as Microsoft has hoped they would be. Most notably, Windows 10 now lets users use Cortana on local accounts. It has tried to do so with the release of the Zune player, Windows Mobile and so on.
Any new version of Windows has advantages and disadvantages and Windows 10 is no different – except that the free upgrade for the first year makes it more tempting to go for it without necessarily thinking things through.
