Georgia players, coaches offer prayers for Southern’s Gales

Southern wide receiver Devon Gales suffered a spinal injury during a 48-6 loss to No. 7 Georgia on Saturday at Sanford Stadium, and he is being treated at an area hospital. Gales was motionless for about 10 minutes on the football field as Georgia and Southern’s training staffs tended to him.

Georgia quarterback Greyson Lambert said on his Twitter and Instagram accounts “Our hearts and prayers go out to Devon Gales, his family, and the entire Southern football team”. Gales was placed on backboard and taken off the field on a cart.

Morgan told OnlineAthens after the game that he hoped Gales would be OK.

According to Southern, the sophomore from Central High School sustained a spinal injury and will remain at Athens Regional until further notice. Georgia running back Nick Chubb ran for 131 yards on 15 carries, his 12th-straight game with over 100 yards rushing.
