Man United’s Shaw ready to fly home after breaking leg

But the England full-back has put a message of thanks on Instagram to the hospital staff who have helped with his recovery and says he will now return home to continue his rehabilitation.

PSV Eindhoven defender Hector Moreno and coach Phillip Cocu visited him at the hospital in Geldorp on Friday.

Moreno’s challenge led to a double fracture for Shaw during Manchester United’s 2-1 Champions League defeat on Tuesday, prompting the Mexico global to issue an immediate apology via social media.

Webb, who works with BT Sport as a football pundit said “Luke Shaw’s injury was terrible and I wish him a speedy recovery”.

“I am not a doctor so I cannot say that, but when you have a double fracture it is I think until six months, ” the United manager said.

Rooney looks set to return from injury for Sunday’s game at Southampton, but he should not be deployed as a pure striker according to former Old Trafford favourite Van Nistelrooy.

However, Van Gaal is hopeful the team has cover in the left-back position and will be able to cope without him.

Young has played as wing-back in a 5-man defence.

With 15 minutes gone, the Mexican slid in with a late two-footed challenge on Shaw in the box. “When players are travelling at great speed then (injuries) are always going to happen”. “You can ask that from (Bastian) Schweinsteiger and (Michael) Carrick but not players of 19, 20 or 21 as it comes with ups and downs”.

The defence did not function as expected when Rojo came on against PSV in the central defence. Hopefully for United he can be the one.

Van Gaal has signed several top class players this summer in the form of Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin, Anthony Martial.

Blind started the season as a regular in the centre of United’s defence but was shifted to left-back in Eindhoven when Shaw was stretchered off and Rojo came on to replace him. “For us it is a big loss, as a team”.

He was quick not to be overly positive saying that Shaw “knows that it is a long way to go for him” even though the “operation was a good operation”.
