At the time of the injury, he was expected to miss the entire season.
And it is killing him. “I feel like I’ve always been the guy that’s been counted on to go out there every five days”.
“Now I’m getting skipped for some other guys”. I was up in the zone… rushing it a little bit and a little quick.
The Yankees are continually asked if they watch the scoreboard to see what the Blue Jays are doing against their opponents.
David Price and Marco Estrada are in line for the first two games of the four-game series in New York, Thursday and Friday, followed by Stroman, then R.A. Dickey on Sunday.
Drew Hutchison got the start and he continued his pattern of infuriatingly poor outings on the road, failing to pitch out of the fourth inning.
It is yet another fortification of a team bent on making sure the Yankees do not overtake them in the AL East. Although he carries a 13-4 record, much of his success has come at home, as well as a ton of run support on the road.
Through the first four months of the season, Buehrle seemed ageless and indestructible, at least from a distance. That’s the word from manager John Gibbons from Boston. “I’m excited about it, I know our guys are excited about it”.
Marcus Stroman will start Saturday against the Yankees in what was Buehrle’s spot.
Buehrle has been inconsistent of late.
Stroman’s return also coincided with the uncertain health of starter Mark Buehrle, who returned to Toronto earlier in the week for a cortisone shot in his shoulder.
Both pitchers were roughed up Monday as Buehrle, who was given extra rest before his start due to shoulder fatigue, allowed nine hits and five runs in three and a third innings en route to his eighth loss in 22 decisions on the season.
The cortisone shot is nothing new for Buehrle, or most other members of the Blue Jays for that matter.
He was asked why he felt it necessary to receive another one now at this important juncture of the season.
“Take your vehicle in to get oil changed, get the bearings lubed up – same thing”, he said.
