Oregon shooting: Survivor ‘saved by victim’s blood’

The 59-year-old was a mature student who was studying at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon.

Harper-Mercer was enrolled in the class, but officials have not disclosed a possible motive for the killings.

All the weapons were legally obtained by the shooter or family members over the past three years through a federally licensed firearms dealer, authorities said. CNN reported that the Army had said Mr Mercer served briefly before being discharged.

Douglas County District Attorney Rick Wesenberg said that he will review the case when the police investigation is completed, which he said should be soon.

Sen. Jeff Merkley said one of his cousins was killed at the school. “I’ve put green porch lights up too”, she said.

Boylan, a freshman at Umpqua Community College, also told her grandmother the gunman asked students about their faith.

Father Ian Mercer said he had no idea his son had accumulated so many guns.

Anastasia Boylan, 18, was hit in the back by a bullet that traveled down her spine.

Bonnie Schaan, the mother of 16-year-old Cheyeanne Fitzgerald, said she was told by her 16-year-old daughter that the gunman gave someone an envelope and told him to go to a corner of the classroom. Two minutes later, at 10:46 a.m., police alerted dispatch, “suspect down”. “I knew that we had a job to do”.

Police said the gunmen shot himself as they arrived on the scene.

Investigators said the writing portrayed the shooter as a student of past mass shootings.

Hanlin reiterated that he will not officially speak the name of gunman. “What do you want a gun for?”

Investigators talked to the gunman’s family and neighbors to try to piece together the puzzle.

Harper-Mercer then told the student that inside the shooter’s backpack was “all the information that you’ll need”. “I’ve never held a gun in my life”.

– He graduated from the Switzer Learning Center in Torrance, Calif., in 2009.

“His demeanor, the way he moved, always looking around, “I got a bad vibe from him”.

Garrett did not say which standards Harper-Mercer failed.

The officials said he lamented the fact that he had no girlfriend.

Mercer wouldn’t comment on whether his son had emotional or mental issues.

Mercer’s social media profiles suggested he was fascinated by the Irish Republican Army and frustrated by traditional organized religion. A post on MySpace that appears to belong to him shows a young man with a shaven head holding a gun. There is no indication that the suspect was affiliated with any group.

The posts were left under the user name “lithium_love”. He had them sit down outside, then he went into Snyder Hall to assess how many others were harmed. A man who was known by no one, is now known by everyone. The worst mass shooting in Oregon history also injured nine people.

His victims were named on Friday, and aged from 18 to 67.

On Thursday, two wounded people were treated in the emergency room and released, he said. “Pretty much everybody knows everybody type scenario”. The gunman also died during a shootout with police.

Roy was waiting in her vehicle because her psychology class was minutes away at Snyder Hall.

“There is no single solution but we must do better”, she said. No one should ever have to feel the pain we are feeling.

The picturesque campus sits on a hill in a logging community, which is fairly rural but easily accessible from Interstate 5. Comprehensive and fully enforced gun regulation and violence prevention is needed to restore the safety of our schools, communities, and public spaces. Of its 13,600 students, the average age was 38 during the 2013-2014 school year.
