Pirates end Mets’ home streak

Later, it was their bullpen that got tagged.

Gregory Polanco singled home the go-ahead run in the 10th inning and Pittsburgh ended the Mets’ seven-game home winning streak, stopping New York 3-2.

Other than the Walker homer, the Pirates hitters were able to do little with the wily, crafty, and always entertaining Colon, mounting only one serious threat.

In his last start, Colon pitched 6.2 innings, giving up four runs in a 4-3 loss to the Rays.

The Pirates are now 8-7 in extra-inning games, a big improvement since April and May.

“I think just that [third] inning, when I threw some pitches up in the zone, some offspeed stuff, and I didn’t throw aggressively enough”, Happ said.

Hurdle: “More often than not, I do believe you will see CRG programs start to trend down when pitcher’s ERAs go up”.

The Mets scored a run against Mark Melancon in the bottom of the inning on Curtis Granderson’s sacrifice fly but couldn’t complete the comeback.

Bobby Parnell [1-2] pitched the 10th inning for the Mets and allowed a leadoff single to Chris Stewart.

Duda is hitting. 375 with nine homers and 12 RBIs in his past nine home games. “I thought it was going to get over his head, but it didn’t”. The Pirates homered in their eighth straight game for the first time in a single season since June 2013, STATS said. Happ struck out seven while walking just one. After Murphy recorded a one-out double manager Clint Hurdle quickly got Happ out of the game. “He’s been really good against us with what he does”. He sent a 2-2 fastball over the wall in left to tie the game, 1-1, with his 20th homer of the season, and his second with the Mets.

New York is 48-13 in their last 61 games as a favorite while Pittsburgh is 7-15 in their last 22 outings at Citi Field.

J.A. Happ will be making his second start for the Pirates on Friday night after he was acquired from the Seattle Mariners at the trade deadline. But with the bases empty, Yoenis Cespedes, who had homered earlier, struck out and Juan Uribe bounced out to end the game. Polanco lined Parnell’s first pitch up the middle.

Before the 10th inning the Mets had received great pitching all night, with Bartolo Colon stymieing the wild-card leaders.

Pirates: Marte was held out of the starting lineup for the second straight night. He is listed as day-to-day. Ramirez has not played first base in a game in the majors or minors in his entire career. Andrew McCutchen leads Pittsburgh with 119 hits and 77 RBI while Starling Marte and Neil Walker have combined for 104 RBI. The Mets have scored 17 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in seven of their last 10 games.
