Republican candidate Ben Carson tells NASCAR fans Confederate flag OK

The Republican presidential candidate was with seven-time Sprint Cup Series champion Richard Petty at one of Petty’s Victory Junction camps on Monday.

“We’re hoping he’s endorsing the camp, we’re not necessarily endorsing him, but we are – you know what I mean?”

Petty pulled off his trademark western hat, and placed it on Carson’s head, saying, “That’s his helmet, ” but declined urges to also hand over the wraparound sunglasses he’s seldom seen without. Petty said coyly before boarding Carson’s campaign bus for photos. “That’s one of his strong points as far as we’re concerned”.

The first primary isn’t until February.

Carson told the NASCAR legend he has a great affinity for cars, adding, “I am from Detroit”.

He went on to acknowledge the flag as a “symbol of hate” for many-by comparing the flag to another symbol of hate.

The relationship between the South and the racing community is somewhat complicated for Carson because of the Confederate flag issue.

“As much as people try to sound like they don’t care, a few people think a black president will look out for the black lifestyle”.

The other neighbors responded by flying American flags, which Carson believes “shamed” the neighbor into taking down the Confederate one, he said.

“If it’s a majority of people in that area who want it to fly, I certainly wouldn’t take it down”, Carson said, according to the A.P.

Carson has been among the leading contenders for the GOP nomination in recent polls but has received criticism recently for comments about Muslims. His campaign collected $10 million for its coffers in September and has garnered almost $20 million for the quarter.

Billionaire Donald Trump is in first, but his once-substantial lead has evaporated. On ABC’s This Week on Sunday, Carson said he’d be “willing to give him a chance”. I have a few very good friends here, ” said Carson.

Do you support Dr. Ben Carson? She might as well have said, “Not voting for Carson because he’s black?”

Not only is the lethargic surgeon inexperienced and lacking in basic knowledge of foreign affairs, his religious zealotry is unnerving, and reveals a man who doesn’t have a firm grasp of Separation of Church and State.

Petty remained somewhat reserved in his endorsement of Carson, but media outlets speculate that he’s in Carson’s corner as a supporter.
