SEC Week 3 Power Rankings: Ole Miss Makes Its Move

Anyone with a heart (which, of course, excepts certain fans) should feel happy for Ole Miss receiver Laquon Treadwell, injured so gruesomely previous year just as he lunged against Auburn toward a victory that did not come. For years, Alabama has been a steamroller whose most defining attribute is that everything you got against them was earned and came at a price.

They insist on doing the later. However, the Rebels know focus will be the most important aspect of practice this week.

The one commonality all three of those rankings had was Ole Miss being No. 1. The Rebels vaulted 12 spots to a tie for third with TCU in this week’s Associated Press poll.

Freeze said the Rebels gained a large amount of confidence by beating the Crimson Tide last season. If we really want to be one of the teams that is being talked about and put on a national scene, our kids are going to have to understand that and we will preach it to them.

Ole Miss hosts Vanderbilt (1-2, 0-1) on Saturday. Kelly has a absolute howitzer for an arm, giving the team a deadly vertical passing game that it has lacked in recent years.

Ridley is second on the team with 13 catches but is averaging just 6.7 yards per reception. “It just depends on how they respond to the loss”.

Ole Miss’ ability to force the other team into mistakes isn’t a recent phenomenon.

“I don’t think we’re going to get too high over this win”, senior linebacker C.J. Johnson said. We all had a few laughs, and we all enjoyed ourselves, but now it’s over for BYU. “It’s about us. We’re going against perfection, and that’s what we strive for every week”.

The same quote could have applied to Saturday against Ole Miss. With his 219 rushing yards against Brigham Young, the UCLA back embodied the UCLA approach under Jim Mora Jr.: It’s bruising football played in pleasant California air.

The latest college football rankings have been released, and the Week 4 AP Top 25 and Coaches Poll each saw a great deal of change.

Mississippi defensive tackle Robert Nkemdiche, left, hugs…

Mississippi Rebels quarterback Chad Kelly (10) celebrates after defeating the Alabama Crimson Tide at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

The Tide has got to clean up its act to try to duplicate last seasons run but won national titles after losing SEC West games in both 2011 and 2012. The Tigers trailed a weird 6-2 score at the end of the first half and scored a touchdown in the third quarter to avoid a second straight upset. They hit the road this weekend to face a tough Florida defense this Saturday in the Swamp. But as long as the team keeps playing as poorly as it has – at least offensively; the defense has been lights out – it might not deserve the benefit of the doubt if it finishes 11-1 and that one loss is …

SERIES HISTORY: Ole Miss leads Vanderbilt 49-38-2.

We are now down to less than half of the conference being undefeated, and that is only through three games of the season. I thought they ham-handed the quarterback situation from the get-go.

But we’ll get into that in a second.

Still, as of Saturday, Chad “Swag” Kelly is in the Heisman discussion.
