Auburn’s defense responded to a call for action from coordinator Will Muschamp in practice last week, and the results showed up in improved play Saturday in Jordan-Hare Stadium. Overall, seven SEC schools ranked within the top 23.

“The focus”, Countess said, “will be on Auburn and it will always be on Auburn“.

Another week down in the SEC, and we continue to find out more about the Mississippi State Bulldogs. I’m looking forward to seeing Sean. The home team is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 meetings. Not coincidentally, the SEC began distributing more money from its television mega-deals with CBS and ESPN during the 2009-10 season. All we’re thinking about is Mississippi State and that’s the way we’re going to operate.

As a Bulldog fan, you can look at it one of two ways.

I’ll gladly take Miss State and the free field goal.

“It’s Moneyball”, Stricklin said. We feel like he needs a shot right now, and we have a lot of confidence in him.

Yes, there are some elements of “Moneyball” at play here with Mississippi State, but really that comparison misses the mark.

For Mississippi State, though, the tantalizing question of what could be will likely have to wait until next week, at least. Most everybody was rotated in as the game played out. Take that, you pundits that keep cutting them down. We also had some things reinforced that have been staring us in the face. You wonder, though, what it will mean inside that locker room.

Malzahn would only commit to White being the start for the Mississippi State game. Still, those losses didn’t coincide with 0-for-Mississippi by Auburn. Sean’s problem? A nasty read as he threw a first quarter pick, and his inability to lead the offense to touchdowns once in the red zone.

Not sure yet, but this might turn into a weekly thing.

It’s been the talk of college football for months now: Auburn’s new video screen is the biggest in the universe! Can the Tigers’ offense really be that much better with a new starter? Tigers coach Gus Malzahn said yesterday the injury is more serious than was initially believed and that Lawson is “going to be out for an extended period of time”.

Cooler heads usually do not prevail, but let’s hope this time they do. I don’t know what Will Muschamp did to them over the week, but shaking up the line up appeared to light a fire under a number of people. Auburn didn’t play like a team that’s no longer “buying into the program”.

Just before halftime, the Bulldogs turned away Auburn facing 1st-and-goal from the 2-yard line. Both of those players might be in Manhattan in December for the Heisman Trophy presentation. And from a scoring standpoint, it was the worst output of the season.

In their three games against FBS competition, the Bulldogs’ defense has given up an average of 380 yards a game.

Malzahn added that he didn’t regret not inserting White into Saturday’s 45-21 loss at LSU. Instead, we’ll settle for Syracuse backup cornerback Wayne Morgan. The Tigers were absolutely dominated by LSU and Leonard Fournette. He completed passes to nine different targets with Duke Williams’ season-high four catches for 49 yards leading the group.

Jeremy Johnson was a mess for Auburn the first three weeks of the season.

Carlson’s 51-yard field goal late in the fourth made it 17-9.

White, a freshman, was a four-star recruit in the 2014 class.

An odd nugget for the numerologists out there (and first noted by Edgar Thompson of the Orlando Sentinel)… Magee found the net for the first time in two seasons with the fifth goal of her career.
