The NRA must help stop the violence

A shooting at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon, has left 10 people dead and seven injured. Do not clean it up. The terrible, bloody, heartbreaking aftermath is exactly the right time to focus on these things – and act.

And they built the high places of Baal, which are in the valley of Ben Hinnom, to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire unto Moloch; which I commanded them not, neither came it into my mind, that they should do this abomination.

They want no restrictions. As visibly angry and frustrated as he has ever appeared in public, Obama challenged voters to make gun safety a priority, noting that mass shootings have become so routine that “we’ve become numb to this”.

Gun lovers, gun manufacturers, gun dealers, and their biggest political machine-the NRA-are almost unstoppable as long as we fail to abolish the Second Amendment.

Let’s rethink the idea of a “well regulated militia”.

At the moment, it is not. This is why they don’t attack police stations or gun shops or NRA banquets, but instead go where signs advertise it’s highly likely there’s no one inside but the dutifully disarmed.

On December 14 of that year, an apparently disturbed 20-year-old man killed 20 children in their Newtown school, along with six adults, sparking a wave of grief and soul-searching. It’s happened with gay marriage: the collective rights of society trumped the discriminatory rights of individuals.

It has no interest in stopping gun massacres, because they are good for business. He argues removing restrictions on carrying guns would enable more people to defend themselves, while gun control laws wouldn’t make people any safer. While the school’s policy prohibits guns inside of its buildings, Oregon law allows people with concealed carry permits to carry firearms on the grounds of public colleges and universities.

No, it isn’t “politicizing” to take positions on gun control and gun rights in the wake of a shooting. It does not discriminate.

The reality is that gun lovers just love playing with their guns and see the killings as something that doesn’t involve them.

Why are our representatives unable to put a stop to gun violence?

“Nobody is safe from this”. John Moorlach, R-Costa Mesa, suggested it could be “a very strong way to curtail a few of the nonsense thats going on” with campus sexual assaults.

– Andy Parker’s daughter, Alison, was shot and killed in Virginia on live television.

Meanwhile, sales at gun shows or on the Internet are not subject to such controls, a known loophole. The bill the president pushed as hard as he could died in the Congress. And that, I believe, was the watershed that convinced Americans that we were impotent to deal with the problem.

Rev. Sharon Risher lost her mother and two cousins at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina. The Second Amendment, in my view, is about the citizenry being armed against a potentially tyrannical government. In fact, one poll past year showed 92% of respondents supporting background checks prior to all gun sales. And too many more in between to count.

In the last several weeks, however, my attitude has changed. And so have many of you.

[W]e are not the only country on Earth that has people with mental illnesses or want to do harm to other people.

Which means we as a country have decided that mass shootings, sad though they may be, are a part of American life.

“Restrictive guns laws only restrict people who follow the law”, he said.

Without a sensible and comprehensive approach to all the “loopholes,”guns will remain the deadliest consumer product in America”.
