Fox News said it canceled Trump’s planned appearance on Thursday’s episode of “The O’Reilly Factor“, and Trump’s tweet followed.
Trump resumed his critique of Kelly on Monday night: “She is the worst – all anti-Trump!” The press predictably jumped to cover his tweet, creating yet another distraction from any real issues that Mr. Trump might be questioned about.
In a statement released by a Fox News spokesperson Thursday, the news organization announced that Roger Ailes and Donald Trump plan on meeting to discus their disagreements over news coverage of Trump’s campaign.
Trump has been feuding with the network since the first GOP primary debate, when he accused moderator, Fox News’ Megyn Kelly, of asking questions he thought were unfair.
Fox News did not say why it canceled Trump’s planned appearance – though it happened after Trump unleashed a series of tweets this week panning the network and hosts Bill O’Reilly and Megyn Kelly.
Fox and Trump may come to yet another truce, but Fox shouldn’t compromise its journalistic standards for ratings.
After several days of not appearing on the network, Trump returned to making guest appearances on the station and referring to Ailes as “a good friend”. Trump said he will speak out when he feels he’s being targeted unfairly.
That Ailes & Co. are coming to the table with Trump is a remarkable nod to the television genius of the real-estate mogul.
No word on when exactly the meeting will take place but Trump denied to CNN’s Alisyn Camerota today that Fox News critiques get to him because he claimed to be “very thick skinned”.
On MSNBC, host Joe Scarborough said to him, “Right now you’re at odds with Fox News“.
Lowry, who is also a regular columnist for POLITICO, responded to Trump’s barbs. On Tuesday night the Republican candidate was on “The Late, Late Show with Stephen Colbert” and made an impressive splash in the ratings. A new Fox poll indicates that his rise has stalled.
Using social media, Donald Trump offered up an explanation of his decision, including the remark that he has been “very unfairly” treated by the network. “I’ll never ever complain, ‘cuz I know when I do something wrong, I’m a smart person”, Trump said.
