Search for missing 2-year-old Idaho boy called off

More than 150 people have been looking for Deorr Kunz Jr., who was on a fishing trip with his family at the Timber Creek Campground when he disappeared Friday afternoon.

The family is based in Idaho Falls.

The Lemhi County Sheriff’s Office is discouraging concerned folks from entering the search area without being requested as we can not keep track of who is in the area.

“We could only turn every stone over so many times and we did it over and over and we had the helicopter”, one searcher told KTVB-TV.

After three days of intense searches, Deorr’s parents believe their 2-year-old was kidnapped Friday as the family was camping in Leadore, Idaho.

Local deputies, Salmon Search and Rescue teams, and even volunteers have scoured about 2 ½ miles around the campground and covered every single inch. But as far as deputies know, the only ones at the lake that day were DeOrr’s parents, grandparents, and a family friend.

“Just in a split second, your whole world is upside down and vanished”, Deorr Kunz Sr., Deorr’s father, told East Idaho News Monday. That includes grid searches on foot, supported by people on horseback and riding ATVs.

“There’s a possibility that he may be with somebody and that’s what is giving us hope”, says dad DeOrr Kunz Sr.

Kunz, Sr. doesn’t think his son is on the mountain anymore and is with someone. “It’s a bad thing that he would be not with us right now, but it also means there’s a good chance that he is alive and with somebody”.

The Lemhi County Sheriff’s Office reports the search and rescue efforts for Deorr Kunz Jr. have been suspended, but Kunz Sr. said search efforts are still going on in Lemhi County. “We haven’t found anything in this area and I’m quite confident it’s been covered very thorough. You have a lot of people that love you, and buddy, we’ll find you”.
