Top Republicans Reportedly Planning Trump Intervention to “Rescue His Candidacy”

Some notable Republicans, including former presidential candidates Governor John Kasich of OH and Senators Ted Cruz of Texas and Lindsey Graham of SC, have declined to endorse Trump but say they have no plans to vote for his Democratic opponent.

Trump’s operation has been beset by internal discord in recent days, including growing concern about general election preparedness and a lack of support from Republican leaders, according to two people familiar with the organization’s inner workings.

In a message to the AP, he joined the many Republicans who called on Trump to apologize to the family of the late Capt. Humayun Khan, a suggestion the billionaire has rejected to date. He wrote on Twitter: “There is great unity in my campaign, perhaps greater than ever before”.

A prolific Republican fundraiser, Whitman told the Times she will make a “substantial” contribution to Clinton’s campaign and urge her friends to do the same. He also insisted, “We’ve never been this united”.

In an interview later Wednesday with Florida’s WPEC-TV, Trump was asked if he was being “baited into battles”. “She is such a weak candidate that one would think we’d be on offense against Hillary Clinton, and it is distressing that that’s not what we’re talking about these days”. But they could only hope Trump’s slide won’t continue. Obama, a Democrat, said at a White House news conference with Singapore’s prime minister, Lee Hsien Loong.

“But if I see and hear things that I think are wrong, I’m not going to sit by and say nothing because I think I have a duty as a Republican leader to defend Republican principles and our party’s brand”. “No, Donald Trump, they’ll be created by inspiring people like Hillary Clinton does”.

It has been relayed to Trump that he is losing what tenuous support he has in the party establishment, and that already skeptical donors are heading for the exits or telling the senior team can’t count on serious progress when he looks so toxic.

“I said to him is that like the real one or is that a copy?”

GOP worries are only fueled by the reality that Clinton is running a well-funded campaign operation in every critical battleground state.

While the children have made some appearances with their father – for instance, Eric Trump attended Tuesday’s rally in Virginia – work obligations and other commitments, including a hunting trip the sons have lined up, have posed scheduling conflicts. “Go ahead and do it, 100 per cent,”‘ Trump recalled of his conversation the day before, interrupting his audience when they began to boo Ryan. “And I’m pleased to do it”.

Mirroring the language Ryan used about supporting Trump before his eventual endorsement, Trump told the newspaper he was “not quite there yet” in endorsing Ryan, the highest ranking elected Republican, in next Tuesday’s Wisconsin primary.

Trump has gone amazingly far without having done an ounce of homework in preparation for the presidency, relying instead on feeding tweets to an anxious Republican base.

The Trump-Khan spat was the final straw for several GOP figures who came out for Clinton-including former California gubernatorial nominee Meg Whitman, former Jeb Bush adviser Sally Bradshaw, former Chris Christie adviser Maria Comella and retiring U.S. Representative Richard Hanna. “And he’s only 5 or 6 points behind”, Bennett said.

Indeed, Trump on Wednesday reported raising $80 million in July for his campaign and the Republican Party, a significant improvement from past months. Clinton raised about $90 million over the same period.

“The media is blowing this out of proportion significantly”, said New Hampshire Rep. Stephen Stepanek.
