Dallas police chief: gunman was planning larger attacks

The Dallas police chief says the shooting suspect was killed by a remote-controlled robot on the second floor of a community college, not a parking garage as authorities previously described. Johnson told negotiators over the phone that he wanted to kill white police officers due to the recent police killings of black men.

Police in Dallas are trying to piece together what happened in the deadly attack on police officers last week – downloading and poring over 170 hours of video and trying to get to the bottom of initials “R.B.” scrawled by suspected gunman Micah Johnson in two locations during his final hours, Dallas Police Chief David Brown said this morning.

The gunman wrote the letters “RB” and other markings, but the meaning was unclear.

“He just basically lied to us, playing games, laughing at us, singing, asking how many did he get and that he wanted to kill some more”, Brown said.

After he was accused of sexual harassment, he was sent back to the USA and the military recommended he be dishonorably discharged, or a similar punishment, in September 2014.

Two Dallas officers were assigned to the marked patrol auto, but officials didn’t immediately say whether the officers were in the vehicle.

On Sunday evening, protesters faced off with police officers wearing gas masks in Baton Rouge where, according to reports, at least 48 people were taken into custody after demonstrators clashed with officers following a peaceful march to the state capitol. He said he’s close to mandating counseling services for all his officers. An armed black policeman at the crossroads between Belleview Street and Akard Street said he has received orders to block the street, but declined to disclose more information.

Johnson told the officer he was “waiting for his dad to arrive” and pick up his brother.

Police detained one person for questioning after the man was seen running from the area.

“This was a mobile shooter that had a written manifesto on shooting and moving”.

Bomb-making material, rifles and a combat journal were found at the home of Johnson, who was himself killed.

“Reality is highly dynamic, you will be drawing your firearm, moving, shooting on the move, fixing malfunctions, etc. all under high levels of stress”, the website says.

Obama also cautions that if protesters paint police with a broad brush, they could lose allies for their cause. He’s old to us. “I have thousands of people”, Everman told The Associated Press on Saturday.

His father, James Johnson, said haltingly and through tears: “I don’t know what to say to anybody to make anything better”.

“I actually left college my first semester of my senior year to comeback and apply with the Dallas Police Department to do something about what I was seeing in my neighborhood”, he said.

Investigators believe Johnson had been practicing and training for a long time and probably learned of the protest from social media and concluded there would be many police present.

Dallas police believe the shooter responsible for the deaths of five officers was planning a bigger attack. Johnson, it was discovered, served as an Army reservist until April 2015 and trained as a carpentry and masonry specialist.

Dallas Police Chief David Brown told reporters he’d like protesters to know “We’re hiring.”
